Every year, over one million women and girls are kidnapped or sold into the illegal sex market. 100,000 of them are Nepalese and over 70% of these girls will become infected with HIV/AIDS. Many have never had the chance to attend school.

Jeena was seven years old when she was sold to a brothel in India and immediately put to work as a prostitute. At age 11 she was rescued by Maiti Nepal, but already she had contracted AIDS. She suffered severe spinal injuries from abuse. There are thousands of girls who live like Jeena. Your purchase helps provide them with a better future, and to enforce legislation to stop trafficking in Nepal.

When you buy the Ram pendant, all profits go to Maiti Nepal, an organization that rescues young girls from forced prostitution, rehabilitates and educates them, and teaches the less healthy how to live with HIV/AIDS. Friends of Maiti Nepal also work to prevent trafficking by encouraging girl’s education. When a girl has merely a few years of schooling, her family sees her as having more value and she is less likely to be trafficked.
